In the Community
Dr. Pitcher’s ties to the Kitsap County area began long ago when he was stationed here at the US Naval Base after he graduated dental school. Since then, he has fallen in love with this part of the Pacific Northwest and has used his expertise and resources to give back to the community he calls home. Dr. Pitcher volunteers with Service With a Smile, a local program where dentists provide free dental service to patients who do not have dental insurance but perform significant amounts of community service. He also volunteers for Project Hero, a program dedicated to providing services to homeless veterans. In addition to these volunteer programs, Dr. Pitcher founded the Kitsap County Dental Support Group. This group allows community dentists to volunteer in the offices of seriously ill or injured colleagues so that the families of our area can continue to receive the excellent dental care they need and deserve.
Dr. Pitcher has lived in Bremerton for 35 years and has loved the area ever since. He and his wife, Sandy, have seven children who have provided them with 22 grandchildren. Dr. Pitcher will tell you that his big loving family is everything to him, and with all the grandchildren, you can imagine the number of school concerts, Boy Scout events, and youth sporting activities that gladly occupy Dr. Pitcher’s time. When he does have some leisure time, he loves staying current on sports and news. But, without a doubt, his favorite leisure activity is serving others, and he has done so in a variety of capacities:
- Committee member and Explorer Advisor for the Boy Scouts of America
- Member of the Bremerton School District Health Advisory Board
- Chairman of the Board of Directors of the West Sound Chapter of the American Red Cross
- School Board Director of the Central Kitsap School District
He also enjoys participating as a judge at the Washington State Science and Engineering Fair, and he sponsors the “Elementary Science Student of the Year” award.
